Nelson Remembering
The latest book release by David Roger Burton
My interest in Lord Nelson began in 1961, when I joined the Royal Navy, and has continued ever since.
I have delayed the writing of this book for many years, thinking I may not do justice to the memory of the greatest naval hero in history. I have now changed my mind as so many people are seemingly doing Lord Nelson's memory an injustice — my efforts, I hope, may help to balance that.
My perception of Lord Nelson is that of a very challenged man; not only challenged by his personality and by the times he lived in, but also by himself. PTSD may not have been known about in his lifetime, so perhaps all the more reason to consider it now. My book reflects on the dying Admiral's thoughts and ghosts as he lay dying on his beloved HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21st October 1805.

I paint in my own special style, some may say abstract, but yet not quite so. My work starts mostly as abstract but only occasionally remains so; mostly it evolves into an identifiable image albeit rather less than realist.
I treat paper, board and canvas in the same way a sculptor may consider a piece of stone or wood — trying to find the hidden image and assisting it to emerge. In this way I feel the subject matter is free, rather than overworked, and I am resigned for it to be an image of an idea which the viewer must also contribute their imagination, and thus, hopefully, be gratified by their discovery.
