Hands on ceramics was formed in 2000 when Karen Fawcett and her husband Colin decided to make a business out of what they had learned whilst studying for a ceramics degree.
The name 'Hands on Ceramics' was derived from the desire to produce truly handmade works of art. In a world of mass production where many pieces are made overseas, Karen wanted to produce British made pieces. Her greatest inspiration is the native wildlife which we see all around us.
It became a personal challenge to see just how realistic a bird or animal could be made to look in clay, Karen continuously studies the 'jizz' of a subject to try to capture not only its looks, but also its personality in clay. She considers it a great compliment when people say 'That blackbird looks as if it's about to fly away!'
We currently have many beautiful pieces by Karen in our gallery, including small garden birds, doves, pheasants and starlings.
